Travel Day, Germany

Sorry guys…I wasn’t able to post anything yesterday because we were pretty beat down after spending a whole day on the train. Here’s my quick recap. We woke up nice and early and took a taxi to the train station where we got on the train to Mannheim, Germany. Ten minutes after leaving the station, we were already in the beautiful Dutch countryside with green fields, sleepy towns, old churches, and sheep. It wasn’t very long after that, that we crossed into Germany following the Rhine river. We sat next to this charming German family, a husband and wife with their 10-or-so year old daughter who laughed, took pictures and chatted (in German) the whole time. There was a bit of a stressful moment when we reached Mannheim because we had only 6 minutes to transfer to our train to Munich. Luckily our next train was running a few minutes behind and the tracks were directly opposite each other so there was no frantic running necessary. We arrived in Munich at about 4:00 p.m. so in total we were on the train for 8 hours. It was a beautiful ride, but it was a little tiring. There was also a slight hiccup with the food on the train. Apparently there was some kind of technical difficulty and none of the DB trains had any food for sale. All we had were 3 apples I shoved into my purse at the last minute in Amsterdam and since we had only 6 minutes to transfer in Mannheim, that pretty much sealed the deal that we wouldn’t be getting any food (besides the apples) until we reached Munich. As soon as we got into the train station, we spotted a food stall selling pretzels so we bought two and scarfed them down. It was the best train station food we’ve ever eaten although that could have something to do with the fact that we were starving.
We were happy to find out that our hotel was a short 5 minute walk away from the train station so we checked in. They gave us an upgraded room and we pretty much crashed in the hotel room for the night. At one point Andrew ventured out for some takeout, but that was pretty much the extent of our night as you can see from the picture of me below falling asleep while watching Dexter on the iPad.
In other news…we have this great pug-sitter who is watching Pookie and Pugoda while we are away and she keeps sending us these fun update pictures. We call them “pupdates.” I couldn’t resist including one of the pics below. Enjoy!
Cheers,
Chelsie & Andrew
